Electrical fault-finding
We test electrical elements, thermostats, timers and supplies. Not every hot-water problem is electrical; we explain when another specialist is needed.
Electric hot water specialists
Plumbers often turn these down — we find and fix the electrical fault.
Step 1 of 2: Appliance
We test electrical elements, thermostats, timers and supplies. Not every hot-water problem is electrical; we explain when another specialist is needed.
We arrange access with tenants or collect keys, and send a short written report after the visit.
Stop using the appliance. Switch off only if safe, avoid damaged or wet switches and do not keep resetting a tripping circuit. If there is smoke or fire, get to safety and call 999.

Electric boilers, immersion heaters and electric showers are common sources of heating and hot-water problems in homes and flats. The same symptom can come from different faults. Our NICEIC Approved Contractor team checks the electrical side, explains what we find and discusses the next step with you.

An electric boiler that will not switch on, shows a fault light or trips the electrics needs diagnosis before parts are replaced. Swiss Electrical investigates the electrical supply, heating elements, thermostats and controls to establish what is stopping the system working.
Tell us the make and model if you can see it without removing a cover. Amptec, Electromax and Elnur are examples of electric heating systems, but they do not all work in the same way. A slim Amptec boiler may provide central heating while a separate cylinder supplies hot water: losing hot water does not automatically mean the boiler itself has failed.
We handle electrical fault-finding, not gas boiler servicing. Water leaks, pressure problems and work on the water circuit may need a heating engineer or plumber as well.

No hot water, only lukewarm water or an immersion heater that keeps tripping can have several causes. The element, thermostat, isolator switch, timer or electrical supply may be involved. Testing helps distinguish a failed part from a control or supply problem rather than replacing the whole cylinder unnecessarily.
With an Economy 7 or off-peak system, tell us whether overnight heating has stopped and whether the boost still works. Some cylinders have separate overnight and boost elements; a working boost does not prove the overnight circuit is healthy. Your tariff, timer settings and the way the system is wired all matter.
Megaflo, Telford cylinders and Gledhill Pulsacoil systems are not interchangeable. Pulsacoil is a thermal store, so hot-water symptoms can also involve pumps and controls. We assess the electrical side; leaks, valves and unvented-cylinder safety components require the appropriate plumbing specialist.

An electric shower heats water locally, so it can fail even when the taps still have hot water. If a Triton, Mira or Redring shower will not turn on, cuts out or trips the circuit, the fault may be in the shower, its pull-cord switch, isolator or electrical supply.
Describe whether water still flows, whether it stays cold and whether any lights come on. A shower running cold is not automatically a failed heating element: water-flow and safety controls can also affect heating. We check the electrical fault and explain whether repair or replacement is the sensible next step.
Do not assume a higher-powered replacement can use the existing cable and protection. Those need checking before an upgrade. A leaking shower or a water-supply problem may also require plumbing work.
If you do not know whether you have an electric boiler, cylinder or thermal store, choose “Not sure” above. A photo of the unit, its label and the switches can help identify it. Do not remove covers to find a model number.
Tell us whether the heating works, whether every hot tap is affected and whether the boost makes any difference. If neighbouring flats also have no hot water and the building has a communal system, contact the building manager: the fault may not be inside your flat.
If you rent, contact your landlord or letting agent to arrange authorisation and access. Avoid booking chargeable work on their behalf without agreement.
When reporting a tenant’s hot-water fault, include the property postcode, system make if known, symptoms and a contact for access. Tell us who will authorise the work and any spending limit before the visit.
We can arrange access with the tenant or collect keys and provide a short written report after the visit. Let us know about parking, entry systems and where the cylinder or boiler is located.
Swiss Electrical is based at 7 Stafford Place, Moulton Park Industrial Estate, Northampton NN3 6NN. Call with the property postcode to confirm availability and whether we can attend your address.
Call for urgent help or select your appliance above and leave your contact details. You can add symptoms or access details in the optional message. Ask about current availability rather than assuming a same-day slot.
We investigate the supply and relevant controls and components. A tripping circuit needs testing: repeated resets or bypassing a thermostat are not a repair.
We explain the findings and discuss repair, replacement or referral for non-electrical work. Cost depends on the fault, access and parts required; ask us to confirm charges and authorisation before work begins.
Stop using the appliance. Switch it off only if you can do so safely; do not touch a hot, wet or damaged switch or remove a cover. Do not keep resetting a breaker. If there is smoke or fire, get to safety and call 999. For electrical faults without an immediate fire emergency, contact us for advice.
Electrical work only — we don't work on gas boilers.
No. This service covers electrical diagnosis and associated electrical repairs for electric boilers, immersion heaters, hot-water controls and electric showers. Plumbing and unvented-cylinder work may need a separate specialist.
Not always. We test the elements, thermostats, controls and supply, then tell you honestly whether a repair is worthwhile or a replacement makes more sense.
Repeated tripping needs investigation. Stop using the appliance and do not keep resetting the breaker. Switch it off only if safe; avoid touching wet, hot or damaged switches. Call us to find the cause.
Yes. We can arrange access with the tenant or collect keys, and send a short written report after the visit.
Yes. Many Northampton flats rely on electric boilers, Economy 7 cylinders or thermal stores, and fault-finding those is exactly what we do.
We can investigate electrical supply and control faults. Tell us the model and symptoms first: Amptec is an electric flow boiler typically used for central heating, while Pulsacoil is a hot-water thermal store. Not every fault is electrical and some work may need another specialist.
Some off-peak systems have separate boost and overnight elements. The overnight element, thermostat, timer or supply could be involved. Check only accessible user settings; do not open covers or adjust wiring. Testing is needed to establish the cause.
The cost depends on the fault, access and any parts needed. Call with the appliance, symptoms and postcode to discuss the job. Ask us to confirm charges and agree any repair before work begins; we cannot give an accurate repair price from the symptom alone.
Call 01604 969391 for current availability. We will discuss the urgency and postcode with you; sending an enquiry does not reserve or guarantee a same-day visit.
An electric shower usually heats its own water rather than taking hot water from the cylinder. The shower supply, heating and safety controls need checking. Water-flow issues can also affect heating, so cold water alone does not identify the failed part.
